Over Fifty Citizen’s Academy
The annual Over Fifty Citizen’s Academy will be held weekdays, March 5-6, 2026 and March 9-10, 2026 for Bowling Green city residents age 50 and older. A portion of the sessions will include bus transportation and very light walking, with accommodations as needed. The Academy is provided at no cost to participants. The participant is expected to attend each session (see schedule).

This spring, participants in the Over Fifty Citizen’s Academy can expect to explore the following topics:
- The City of Bowling Green’s form of government
- Elected officials, open meetings, and public records
- How City government is funded
- Components of a livable community
City Departments Overview
Participants will receive an introduction to many City departments, including:
- City Hall
- Police Department
- Fire Department
- Finance
- Public Works
- Parks & Recreation
- Neighborhood & Community Services
Community Focus Areas
Additional sessions will highlight:
- Language access
- Mobility & accessibility
- Transportation needs and planning
- Aging resources and services
- Arts, leisure and lifelong learning
- Becoming and remaining active and engaged in community and civic life
