Downtown Parking Leases

We know that businesses located in the Fountain Square area need parking spaces for their staff. Ideally, these spaces should be situated nearby, rather than directly on the square, allowing customers to use parking on the square itself. Parking lots behind most square buildings are privately owned; some offer limited parking for tenants or downtown businesses, while others don't.

The City of Bowling Green currently provides leased parking spots in two lots adjacent to Fountain Square:

Paxton Lot

This lot is located at Center St and East 10th Ave and offers a total of 57 parking spaces, including 2 accessible parking spots. You are free to park anywhere in this lot, there are no reserved spaces.

State Street Lot

Located at 801 State St (behind the Bluegrass Ingredients building). This lot offers another convenient option with 66 parking spaces, including 2 accessible parking spots. Reserved spaces are available in this lot. Please check the map below to view which spots are currently available:

Out of the 123 spots available for lease, the City has already leased around 40 spots and has received numerous requests from downtown business owners.

Leasing Details

  • Lease Rate: $35 per spot per month
  • Availability: Weekdays (Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm); Public parking after hours and on weekends (Saturday - Sunday)
  • Towing: Not enforced; signage must indicate private or reserved parking only. Businesses also cannot contract with towing companies.
  • Risk: Reserved spot leases are assumed at the business' own risk
  • Signage: Each spot in the State St. Lot features an individually installed sign, printed and set up by Public Works. A one-time installation fee of $25 per sign is required upon lease execution. However, the City will assume the cost of replacing any signs that are damaged, stolen, or vandalized.
