Property Maintenance Code
Chapter 27 of City Ordinance (the “Property Code”) sets out minimum requirements for existing structures and exterior property in Bowling Green. Incorporated into city ordinance by reference is the current edition of the International Property Maintenance Code. Together, these documents provide standards for:
- Interior and Exterior Maintenance of Structures
- Maintenance of Exterior Property (Including Vacant Property)
- Occupancy Levels and Minimum Safe Habitation Requirements
- Light and Ventilation Requirements
- Plumbing Fixture Requirements
- Mechanical and Electrical Requirements
- Means of Egress and Fire-Safety Mechanisms

Bowling Green City Ordinance (Chapter 2)
Establishes the Code Enforcement and Nuisance Board, enforcement proceedings, rules for citations and notices, methods for appeal, final orders, and lien procedures.
Bowling Green City Ordinance (Chapter 27)
Establishes minimum requirements for property maintenance within the city, defines and lists nuisance violations, and governs maximum fines for certain city ordinance violations.
2024 International Property Maintenance Code
The current edition of the IPMC provides requirements for continued use and maintenance of building elements, site conditions, swimming pools, plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems in existing residential and nonresidential structures.
