Burn Permit (Residential)

Note: We issue burn permits for addresses within the Bowling Green City limits only

Please give a range of dates in wish you'd like to burn (in case of inclement weather)

Rules:

  • Burning is not permitted if wind speeds are 10 mph or higher.
  • Applicant must remain with burn until the fire reaches a smoldering phase.
  • If the Fire Department receives a complaint about the burn we are required to respond and extinguish the burn. The permit will be voided.
  • Materials burned must be natural vegetation only. No pallets, treated lumber, trash, etc. may be burned.
  • Burn only allowed from 6:00 pm to 6:00 am from February 15th to April 30th, and from October 1st to December 15th.
  • Burning material must be at least 30 feet away from woodlands, grasslands, and other combustibles.
  • Burning material cannot be more than 4 feet in height.
  • Sufficient extinguishing method must be present to prevent spread; water hose is preferred.
IMPORTANT: The applicant agrees to follow all regulations and conditions imposed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The applicant agrees to indemnify and hold the City harmless from any claims that may ever be asserted against the City resulting from damages that may arise from the approval of the open burning application. Applicant also agrees that it will be solely responsible for any consequences of damages caused by this burning and further understands that this approval by the City of Bowling Green shall not be construed to create a co-partnership of joint venture by and between the City of Bowling Green and applicant or to make the City of Bowling Green or any of its agents, or employees responsible in any way for any losses or damages caused by applicant’s burning.
