2019 Veterans Day Parade

The Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to feature more than 300 units honoring past, present and future troops of all military branches.

The Veterans Day Parade will take place Saturday, November 9, at 10:00 a.m. and is expected to feature more than 300 units honoring past, present and future troops of all military branches.

November 9 Veterans Day Parade events are scheduled as follows:

  • Parade starts at 6th & College Street (near Circus Square) at 10:00 a.m. and ends near Circus Square at 6th & State Street. From College Street, the route will turn left onto 10th Avenue, left onto State Street, and ending at 6th & State Street.
  • Flag-raising ceremony: Remarks from Mayor Wilkerson and Judge Executive Buchanon will immediately follow at the Warren county Courthouse Veterans Memorial Courtyard at 429 E. 10th Avenue. The 100th Army Band from Fort Knox will be the lead band at the parade and will also be at the Flag Raising Ceremony.
  • The Grand Marshal of the parade is Leon Tarter. Tarter was only 18 years old when he was drafted from Brownsville, KY into World War II. Tarter was a Calvary Scout for the 79th infantry division. There were 160 boys in his company and when they made a big move, they were always in front. Tarter arrived on the beaches of Normandy just three days after D-Day.
  • The Veterans Parade student essay winner will be awarded $100 from the American Legion and VFW Ladies’ Auxiliary. Student essays were solicited from 4th & 5th grade classes from the Bowling Green and Warren County Schools.
