Expect road closures on Smallhouse Road beginning October 24

Summary: Beginning next week, work crews will conduct block by block closures from Barber Way to 13th Avenue on Smallhouse Road in which detours will be designated with signage.

City application process now open for small business tornado relief

Summary: On March 15, the Bowling Green Board of Commissioners authorized this program to give up to a 100% rebate on the City only portion of Property Tax for commercial property and/or City Net Profit to help provide relief to small businesses that were negatively impacted by the December tornadoes.

Taking out the trash in Bowling Green

Summary: Trash collection is now automated, meaning solid waste collectors will use an automated arm from the trash truck to pick up your trash bins. All trash must be in the bin and not piled on top of it or around it. Trash that is not inside the Scott Waste bin will not be picked up.

Summary: Beginning at 8:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, Ken Bale Blvd (formerly Shive Lane) will be closed between Bryant Way and Middle Bridge Road. Middle Bridge Road will also be closed between Pedigo Way and the entrance to Charter Senior Living. The closure is expected to last until Friday, Nov. 11.

City receives 11th consecutive Distinguished Budget Award from GFOA

Summary: When a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is granted to an entity, a Certificate of Recognition for Budget Presentation is also presented to the individual(s) or department designated as being primarily responsible for having achieved the award. This has been presented to Finance department.

Eight new police officers sworn in today

Tornado Recovery Events Planned for September

Summary: Two Tornado Recovery Events are planned: one at Jennings Creek Elementary School on Thursday, Sept. 22 and the other at SOKY Marketplace on Thursday, Sept. 29. Community members helping guide local disaster recovery will be on hand.

Special Tornado Tree Removal Services Offered

Summary: The City of Bowling Green has received additional state funding in order to assist property owners with additional tornado damage-related tree stump/debris removal and/or tree replacement. Requests are being accepted online from the "Report a Problem" link on the City's website.

Governor presents $1 million check to the city to help pay for new Transpark fire station

Summary: During a groundbreaking ceremony today for electric car battery plant Envision, Governor Andy Beshear presented a ceremonial check the city to help pay for a new fire station at the Kentucky Transpark. Fire Chief Justin Brooks, along with several members of BGFD, attended the ceremony.

Temporary road closure planned for Middle Bridge Road next week

Summary: Beginning Monday, Aug. 29, the section of Middle Bridge Road between Pedigo Way and Ken Bale Blvd. will be closed to traffic while contractors install a section of the storm system related to the Shive Lane/Ken Bale Blvd. Corridor Improvements project.

City receives Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting

CSX Transportation Railroad Crossings Reopening

Summary: CSX Transportation has reopened two railroad crossings that were closed earlier this week for routine maintenance. The remaining two railroad crossings will open tomorrow.

Commission temporarily amends fireworks ordinance

Summary: Residents who purchased fireworks and observed the burn ban asked city officials for an alternative date to discharge fireworks resulting in tonight’s final vote to temporarily amend the fireworks ordinance.

City investigates suds in Lost River Cave

Government seeks community input to spend disaster funds
