The Bowling Green Parks & Recreation Department (BGPR) budgeted for improvements to Pedigo Park through the City of Bowling Green’s Fiscal Year 2026 (FY26) Capital Improvement Projects budget. This funding supports necessary improvements to existing recreational amenities, as well as the addition of new features that enhance recreational opportunities for the community.
Over the past two fiscal years, BGPR has worked through the design and construction process to bring two new Sepak Takraw courts to Pedigo Park. Sepak Takraw is a fast-paced Southeast Asian team sport often referred to as “kick volleyball.” Played on a badminton-sized court divided by a net, the sport features two opposing teams that use a woven rattan or synthetic ball. Players keep the ball in the air using their feet, knees, chest, shoulders, and head. The use of hands and arms is prohibited, making agility, coordination, and athleticism essential to the game.
BGPR learned of a local community passionate about Sepak Takraw that lacked a dedicated court to play the sport. Recognizing the need for a safe, designated space for players to gather and participate, the department invested in creating an amenity that supports this unique recreational interest. With the completion of these courts, that vision has become a reality, providing local players with a dedicated space to enjoy the sport and strengthen their community.
With assistance from the City of Bowling Green’s Community Engagement Division, BGPR will celebrate the opening of the new courts alongside the local Sepak Takraw community. The celebration will include a tournament and a food fundraiser, highlighting the sport and the community that helped bring this project to life.
Join BGPR for the grand opening of the new Sepak Takraw courts at Pedigo Park on Saturday, October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Come celebrate this exciting addition to Bowling Green’s park system and cheer on local players as they take to the courts!
