City Reminds Drivers to Slow Down, Move Over and Stay Alert BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The City of Bowling Green is reminding drivers to stay alert and know what to do when approaching or encountering emergency vehicles on the roadway. With Western Kentucky University and area schools back in session, Bowling Green roadways are seeing increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The City is encouraging drivers to remain attentive and help keep police officers, firefighters, first responders and everyone traveling our roads safe. Under Kentucky law, drivers must yield the right of way to approaching emergency vehicles. When drivers see or hear an emergency vehicle approaching, they should stay calm, pay attention, move to the right side of the roadway and stop clear of any intersection. Drivers approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with its warning lights activated should slow down and move over when it is safe to do so. If changing lanes is not possible or cannot be done safely, drivers should slow down and proceed with caution. These actions give first responders the space they need to safely respond to emergencies and work along Bowling Green roadways. The City has released a new public service announcement highlighting these important reminders and encouraging the community to make roadway safety a shared responsibility. Slow down. Move over.
