City of Bowling Green Implements Multiple Animal Permit Requirement for Certain Animal-Related Businesses

Bowling Green now requires a free annual Multiple Animal Permit for businesses that board, breed, groom, or keep more than six animals. The permit includes a quick inspection to ensure animals are safe and well cared for—apply today at bgky.org.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky., July 23, 2025 — The City of Bowling Green is announcing the implementation of a new requirement for certain animal-related businesses operating within city limits. Under Ordinance 2024-18, passed by the Bowling Green Board of Commissioners in December 2024, a Multiple Animal Permit is now required for for-profit businesses that board, breed, groom, or keep more than six animals at a single location.

This ordinance, now in effect, is designed to promote the health, safety, and well-being of animals in commercial settings and to ensure proper care standards are met throughout the community.

The Multiple Animal Permit is free of charge and must be renewed annually. After an application is submitted, a City Animal Control Officer will contact the applicant to schedule an on-site inspection of the premises to verify compliance with animal care standards.

Businesses affected by this ordinance are encouraged to apply as soon as possible by visiting:

For more information or questions about the application process, contact the City’s Code Compliance & Animal Protection Division at 270-393-3102 or email animalprotection@bgky.org.
