Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Valid driver’s license
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Good driving, police, personal, & employment record
  • Males aged 18-26 must be registered with the Selective Service
  • Tattoos cannot be visible while in uniform and  body studs and/or earrings will not be worn while on-duty

Peace Officer Professional Standards (POPS) Test

As part of the application process, all applicants must take and pass a state certified physical agility test (POPS). This test consists of five events:

  • Bench Press (% of body weight)
  • Sit-ups (repetitions)
  • 300 Meter Run (seconds)
  • Push-ups (repetitions)
  • 1.5 Mile Run (min: sec)

This test uses an overall scoring scheme, allowing a lower score on one event to be compensated by a higher score on another event. In order to meet the state standard, an overall minimum score of 50 points must be achieved.
