Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11 to honor military veterans. In years past, this event has been celebrated locally with a Veterans Day Parade. Unfortunately, due to the unpredictability of the COVID19 virus and the public health risks posed by crowds, the City of Bowling Green is forgoing the annual parade downtown.

For the 2020 year, the City will celebrate our Veteran’s in a different way. From October 1st to October 31st, we’re asking all of our Veterans and/or their friends and family members to email us a picture of their favorite Serviceman or Servicewoman. All we need is the photo, the name of the man or woman who served, the years of service and rank (more information can be provided if the sender chooses).

Email: kim.lancaster@bgky.org
Subject: BG Veteran
Information: Name, years of service, rank

During the week of November 8 – 14, the City will post the photos at www.bgky.org, https://www.facebook.com/citybgky, https://twitter.com/CityofBGKY, and https://www.instagram.com/cityofbgky/. These photos will be posted with the hashtag #BGVets2020. We want to make sure that the brave men and women who have served our Country will be recognized.

In addition, please tune into channel 4 for replays of previous years’ Veterans Day Parades. These parades will be aired the first two weeks of November.

Help us honor our local Veterans this year by sending us a photo!

Stay tuned for announcements regarding other Veterans Day celebrations that are in the works.
