Park and Recreation Month

July is Park and Recreation Month!

Every day, in communities across the country, the people of parks and recreation are providing essential services and making their communities better places to live, work and play. Because of their critical work, the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) is working to shift the narrative of parks and recreation.

This July, NRPA wants to redefine the field of parks and recreation as an essential, vital necessity by sharing how park and recreation professionals are frontline staff, confronting our most pressing health, environmental and social challenges.

This year’s theme is “We Are Parks and Recreation,” and NRPA is highlighting the diversity of park and recreation professionals and showcasing their selfless work.

The City of Bowling Green Park and Recreation Department offers a comprehensive variety of excellent recreational programs and facilities that promote wellness and enhance quality of life in our diverse community and represent our commitment to a safe and sustainable future.

The City of Bowling maintains and oversees over 20 local parks encompassing hundreds of acres. When visiting these parks, citizens can utilize playgrounds, basketball courts, walking trails, bike paths, tennis courts, outdoor fitness areas, volleyball courts, baseball fields, golf courses, waterways and so much more.

In addition to our parks, the City boasts community centers, athletic programs, a full fitness facility, cemeteries, the Russell Sims Aquatics Center and our Special Populations Program. The employees of the City of Bowling Green Park and Recreation Department work to educate residents, beautify our landscape, promote wellness, and enhance the overall quality of life for all.

This month we want to say thank you to our employees in all of our divisions including Parks Maintenance, Cemetery, Landscape, Golf, Athletics, Fitness, Park Rangers and Community Center Staff.
