Sidewalk Open House

Walkability is a measure of how friendly an area is to walking and has health, environmental, and economic benefits. Walkability is an important concept in sustainable urban design.

Sidewalks and walkability are an integral part of our day to day lives in Bowling Green and the City works hard to not only repair sidewalks when needed, but to also continue building new sidewalks in order to create a connectivity throughout the City.

On Thursday, June 6th, 2019 between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. the City will host a Sidewalk Open House at our Neighborhood and Community Services Community Room located at 707 East Main Avenue. Folks are welcome to “pop in and out” at any time during the open house to get information on our annual sidewalk construction program, locations that are scheduled to receive new sidewalks, easement issues, etc.

The goal of this open house is to obtain input on any or all of the sidewalk projects that will be discussed. We will present conceptual layouts of sidewalk projects, discuss project characteristics (side of street, width, etc.), as well as offer residents the opportunity to provide feedback regarding the projects.

As a general rule, sidewalk rankings are updated as new requests are received, and are subject to change. Sidewalks chosen to be constructed in the upcoming fiscal year are selected by rank from the prioritized list as of March 1. Any new requests received after March 1 are entered and analyzed for consideration in subsequent years. The number of projects chosen for construction in a given year is dependent upon available funding.

If you would like to request a new sidewalk in your neighborhood, please contact Citizen Information & Assistance at (270) 393-3444 or you may email emily.angel@bgky.org.
