Student Exchange Selection

The student exchange program was established to increase the cultural awareness and mutual understanding of local students in the international realm. Outstanding students in our community will be challenged and rewarded by the opportunity to experience Japanese culture first-hand; students will be able to share their knowledge with other students and the Bowling Green/Warren County community; and, students will serve as ambassadors from Bowling Green to strengthen our international sister city relationship with Kawanishi. Students will be able to increase their international understanding of different cultures, as well as gain vital knowledge and experience to better compete in the global economy.

While in Kawanishi, students spend time attending a Japanese school, viewing the inner workings of Kawanishi’s city government, traveling throughout the region learning about Japanese life and culture, visiting a Buddhist temple, and more. Each student stays with a Japanese family (families have knowledge of the English language), where they experience first-hand the similarities and differences in Japanese homes, families, food, and culture!

Students in 10th or 11th grades at one of the four public high schools in Warren County are eligible to apply for the student exchange program if he/she meets the following criteria:

Minimum 3.0 GPA

Resident of Warren County

In addition to filling out the application, students will answer several short answer questions, include a copy of their transcripts, list honors/awards and activities/volunteer work, and submit two written letters of recommendation. Final applicants will be interviewed by the selection committee.

Each candidate who participates in the exchange program is required to create and implement a service learning project at his/her school. The project must be approved by school administration.

Currently this program is inactive . Should the status change, information will be announced in each school and all eligible students would then be encouraged to apply.
