BGCAN SPRING RALLY OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS SET FOR APRIL 29, NEW BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED
Bowling Green Coalition of Active Neighborhoods (BGCAN) will host its next Spring Rally of the Neighborhoods at Bowling Green Parks & Recreation on Monday night, April 29. A light supper and networking take place at 6:00 p.m., with the program scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. This Rally fulfills the training requirement for SNAP Grant eligibility. The Spring Rally is when the coalition selects new board members. Each year, part of the members roll off to allow new members to come on the board. To be eligible to serve, you need only to attend BGCAN, be 18 years of age, and have a desire to volunteer and work to make Bowling Green neighborhoods the best they can be. The Board helps to plan 3 Rallies a year, provides guidance to the Neighborhood Services Office, reminds neighborhood leaders of upcoming events, and occasionally takes on other special projects. If you are interested in serving, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 393-3674.
SNAP GRANT DEADLINE SET FOR JULY 1 (MOVED UP FROM SEPTEMBER)
The 2013 SNAP Grant application deadline has been set for 4:00 p.m., Monday, July 1, 2013. Updated guidelines and the new application packet are all available for download on the City's website at http://www.bgky.org/neighborhoods/nhgrants.php#snapforms. This deadline represents a deviation from the deadline set the last few years, when applications were due in September. A revision to the guidelines allows neighborhood organizations that have not applied for SNAP grant funds since 2008 to apply this year as new applicants, a change that allows those groups and other new applicants to apply for up to $5,000 rather than just $2,500.
TEXT MESSAGING SERVICE AVAILABLE
The City of Bowling Green is now offering a text messaging service to residents who want to receive text messages about various City services. Text the words "join golf" to the number 270-681-3828 and receive messages about daily golf specials at the City's golf courses and pro shop, or text "join info" to get text message updates on general information. If you'd just like info on Bowling Green neighborhoods, then text "join bgcan" to the same number.
DOES YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD HAVE A WEBSITE OR FACEBOOK PAGE?
If your neighborhood hosts a neighborhood website or a Facebook page, please notify Neighborhood Services by email at email@example.com so we can direct traffic to your site from our new BGCAN page, which we hope to roll out later this spring. While you're at it, take time to Register Your Neighborhood and verify contact information for your group, as well as streets included in your boundaries.
BOOK YOUR SUMMER STROLL
Summer Strolls won't start until June, but it's a good idea to reserve your neighborhood's spot early! Summer Strolls are held at the invitation of neighbors and take place the Monday nights preceding the Board of Commissioners' regular meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, beginning in June. Summer Strolls are a great way to get neighbors together and to showcase your neighborhood's opportunities and concerns in an informal way to our elected officials and City staff.
USE THE CITY'S ONLINE REQUEST/COMPLAINT FORM
You'll want to bookmark this great tool for filing service requests online: https://esuites.bgky.org/eSuite.RequestForAction/
By using this online form, you'll be able to use a tracking number code to follow the progress of your request for service or code enforcement case. Be sure to follow directions on the page, to put in minimum information (say, street number and first few letters of street name) and allow for the form to offer you options from a pull-down menu. And be sure to keep your tracking number!
