CITY OF BOWLING GREEN RECEIVES APWA AWARDS

Bowling Green, KY – The City of Bowling Green Public Works Department has received two American Public Works Association (APWA) project of the year awards. The awards were presented to Public Works Director Jeff Lashlee and staff on Wednesday, October 17, in Louisville, KY.

The re-design and improvements of Old Morgantown Road won project of the year in the "Roadway Category” for improved safety and mobility, improved access, addressing drainage and for coming in within budget among other things. Construction began on this project in 2010 and was completed in October of 2011. The construction involved several phases to incorporate utility relocation, storm sewer installation and final paving.

In addition, the South Park Drive Drainage Improvements won project of the year in the "Stormwater Category.” The goals of this project were to reduce flooding to residents and motorists and to mitigate future impacts to City maintained infrastructure. The majority of the excavation for this project occurred on Paul Walker Golf Course and two of the improved drainage areas will be incorporated into the golf course layout.

"Public Works staff has dedicated so much time and energy to these projects and it's great to see that they have been recognized by the APWA,” said Lashlee. "However, more importantly, we are happy that we could help enhance the quality of life for the citizens of Bowling Green.”

The City of Bowling Green is the only Public Works Department in Kentucky to be accredited by the APWA.
