Capital Improvement Projects (CIP's) are large construction projects that require a considerable amount of resources (personnel, time, money, etc.). These projects, given their scope and size, are typically contracted for construction in lieu of in-house construction. Several locations are considered for the CIP program and selected based on their need. The total number (and cost) of projects considered in need, greatly exceeds the available funds for such projects. Therefore, an evaluation criteria has been developed to rate and rank drainage CIPs. The criteria is as follows:
| Public Health Hazard | 10% |
| Road/Structure Prevention and Mitigation | 20% |
| Problem Prevalence/ Immediate Impact | 15% |
| Operation and Maintenance Requirements | 15% |
| Water Quality | 10% |
| Public Visibility/Accessibility | 5% |
| Future Development | 5% |
| Permitting Requirements/Construction Feasibility | 5% |
| Planning Consistency | 5% |
| Report a Flooding Location | Capital Improvement Projects |
