Animal Control
The City of Bowling Green resumed the responsibilities of Animal Control, for the city limits, in July of 2004. The Animal Control Unit's duties include responding to citizen complaints concerning animals, investigating animal cruelty and to enhance public awareness of animal ordinances and safety. The Animal Control Unit responded to 4,458 calls in 2005. KRS 258.195 (3) explains the authorities given to the Animal Control Unit.KRS 258.195 (3)
Animal Control officers shall have the authority to issue uniform citations, local citationsor local notices for the enforcement of the provisions of this chapter, the provisions of the
Kentucky Revised Statutes relating to cruelty, mistreatment or torture of animals and
animal control ordinances in their respective jurisdictions.
The Bowling Green Police Department is staffed by two animal control officers. Officer R. Ross has been employed by the Bowling Green Police Department since July of 2004. She relocated here from Dayton Ohio, with 23 years experience in Animal Control and Livestock Investigation. She has completed the highest level of The National Animal Control Academy and is Nationally Certified. Officer Bill Gruszczyk started with thedepartment in February, 2007. ACO Gruszczyk has previous animal control experience in Illinois and will receive National Animal Control Associationcertification this year. - Make sure your pet has plenty of fresh water available at all times.
- Make sure your pet has shelter and shade from direct sun.
Tis' the Season for the Birds and Bees
- Females in heat should be kept confined to guard against unwanted matings.
- You can be fined for allowing a female in heat to run at large.
- Please Spay or Neuter your pet to help control the unwanted pet population. We pick up animals every day that need loving homes.
Tethering
- Any chain or tether must be at least 10 feet in length and have swivels on both ends.
- Nochain or tether shall weigh more than 1/8 of the dogor puppy's body weight.
- Keep your pet tethered clear of objects it can get tangled up in.
Vaccinations and City License
- Rabies tags and licenses must be attached to your pet's collar or harness.
- City license to be purchased at the Bowling Green Warren County Humane Society
Removal of Animal Waste
- It is the responsibility of the owner to remove animal waste deposited by the animal within the City on public walks, streets, cemeteries, parks, recreation areas or private property belonging to another.
