Old Morgantown Road Revitalization Project

Status as of August 31, 2010

Scott & Ritter, Inc. began excavation for the proposed storm water retention basin in front of Dishman-McGinnis School in July. Additionally, construction crews are completing waterline relocation in Phase I of the project between University Boulevard and Collegeview Drive. Phase II waterline relocation will begin to the west of Collegeview the beginning of September. Residents may experience a short disruption to water service when the contractor switches services over to the new waterline. Notice will be given prior to any disruptions to water service and every effort will be made to minimize impacts to adjacent properties.

Although the contractor will make every effort to keep both lanes open, anticipate periods where the road will be closed to thru traffic. Detour signs will be posted. The water line is near, if not in, the travel lanes and often lane closures are necessary to provide room to perform construction activities safely. Local access to businesses and residences will be maintained throughout the project. Please drive with caution while traveling through Old Morgantown Road in order to provide a safe environment for construction crews, pedestrians and other motorists.

We continue to coordinate with AT&T, BGMU, Atmos Energy, and Insight Communications for utility relocation. Overhead utility lines will be moved to the new utility poles on the south side of the roadway in September. Shortly thereafter the old utility poles will be removed.

We will post more information about the construction progress and any other related issues throughout the project. We continue our efforts toward the goal of an aesthetically and functionally improved, pedestrian friendly corridor. We are striving to minimize inconvenience to residents and property owners. Please continue to visit this project web page for periodic updates.
