City Seal & Flag
The City of Bowling Green adopted its official flag and seal on September 17, 1996. They were both designed by Dianne Howerton and Gil Stengel and consist of a depiction of the fountain in Fountain Square Park (which is located in downtown Bowling Green). The seal also features the phrase “Founded in 1798” located above the fountain.
When the seal was created, it was ruled that the flag be required to have a solid forest green background with the fountain shown in white.
In regards to use of the City seal, only three colors may be used with it: black, white and green. Also, the shape of the seal must remain a perfect circle and cannot be distorted in anyway. Lastly, it was decreed that no text or graphics can be added to or taken away from the seal, since that would essentially change or create a new seal. It must be used in its entirety or not at all.
