The Code Enforcement program requires proper maintenance of all properties and existing buildings for the protection of public health, safety, and welfare. Enforcement activities include, but are not limited to, ordered substandard structure repair or demolition, weed mowing, and trash or inoperative vehicle removal. Without voluntary abatement, compliance is achieved by administrative or court action. For more information, contact one of the Code Enforcement Inspectors at (270) 393-3102
Keeping our Neighborhoods Code Compliant. Always striving to make our community safe and
the best place for raising our families and working. |
As we plan our outdoor activities there are a few code issues that you will want to observe that will improve your properties and neighborhoods. By making these simple corrections and observations, neighbors will not be complaining and citations will not be issued. You can keep on having fun without any interruptions.
- Parking our vehicles in front yards on the grass is not allowed, but you can park in the front of the house if the parking area is paved with asphalt, concrete, brick pavers, or similar paving material. The designated parking area can not be in excess of 25 percent of the front yard. Oh yes, you can park in front of a garage or carport.
- Bare spots of ground and tire ruts resulting from parking in a yard on the grass need to be corrected. These areas will need to be worked up and smoothed out replanted with grass. The spring of the year is a very good time to get a quick and good stand of grass. Be sure to cover the seed with straw for quicker growth.
- Erosion areas on sloping lots will need to be worked up and smoothed out and seeded with grass.
- Then on the other hand, grass in your yard cannot exceed 10 inches in height or it is in-violation and is subject to a citation.
- Remove yard debris such has fallen limbs, piles of leaves and trimmed shrubbery.
- Trash that has accumulated in fence rows from the winter winds should be removed.
- Old appliances that you have set out in the yard are to be removed from the premises. If you have a refrigerator, the door is to be removed, and the unit laid on its front to keep children out of harms way and until the unit is pick-up by the disposal company.
- Discarded tires are not allowed on the premises; be sure to dispose of these in the proper way. Take them to a tire dealer or to a recycler. It will cost you a couple of bucks to do this but that will beat a $50 to $200 citation if they are found on your property.
- Inoperable vehicles are not allowed on residential property for more than three days. This includes licensing.
- Swimming Pool owners check your locks and latches on fence gates and make sure that you fence meets the 4’ minimum height requirement and a 4 inch sphere cannot pass underneath the fence. All gates are to be self latching. Gate latches are to be in excess of 48 inches above the ground. If you think your gate does not meet these requirements the gate needs to be locked all the time.
- A Building permit is required for the following projects:
- In-ground swimming pool
- Build, Buy or replace a Storage Shed
- Fence
- Backyard Workshops or Garages
Please observe a waiting period of 10 days while the permit is being approved. Call for additional information.
- All contractors are to be licensed and insured.
