Real and Personal Property Taxes
The Treasury Division collects property taxes for the City itself and also for the Bowling Green Independent School System. The City's tax rate for the year 2006 was $.255 per hundred dollars of assessed value on real estate and $.260 per hundred dollars on personal property (business furniture, fixtures and inventory). In Kentucky, property is valued at 100% of fair market value, as January 1 of each year. The property values are determind by the Warren County Property Valuation Administrator. Properties located within the City limits pay property taxes to both the City and County (which also bills for the State and for the County School system, if not inside the City School limits). The total tax rates per hundred (City, County, State and appropriate School)on real property for the year 2006 are shown below. City Proper means the property is inside the City limits and also inside the City School limits. City Annex means that it is inside the City limits but in the County School limits. County means that it is outside the City limits and receives no City services.
- City Proper - $1.210 / Hundred
- City Annex - $.895/ Hundred
- County - $.640 / Hundred
The City normally mails approximately 20,000 property tax bills each year in the month of October and they are due in full by December 31 each year. Unpaid taxes are subject to foreclosure action being filed by the City after remaining unpaid six months past the due date. Personal property taxes on vehicles and boats are collected by the Warren County Court Clerk at the time of registration and then remitted to the City.
Property taxes supply approximately 20% of the City's General Fund revenues. For estimates on property tax revenues, see the City's budget. For more information on Property Taxes, contact us at (270) 393-3000 voice, (270) 393-3636 fax, or email us.
