They are also posted on Government Access Cable Channel 4 and on the City’s website. Information is also provided via the City’s Job Hotline. Job Opportunities with the City: Fire & Police
The Human Resources Department administers an annual recruitment, application, testing and selection process for the positions of police officer and firefighter. A register in which potential applicants can have their name and address placed is maintained throughout the year.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO APPLY (POLICE):
· Must be at least 21 years of age by start date
· U.S. Citizen
· Valid driver’s license
· Good driving, police, personal and employment record
· 60 Semester hours of college OR 2 years as certified police officer (Out of state officers must provide documentation of ability to become KY certified at time of application) OR 4 years military service
· Males between 18 and 26 must be registered with the Selective Service
· Tattoos cannot be visible while in uniform and body studs and/or earrings will not be worn while on duty

· U.S. Citizen
· Valid driver’s license
· Good driving, police, personal and employment record
· High school diploma or equivalent

· Physical agility test, including job-related practical skills
· Oral interview; polygraph; psychological test; background investigation; drug test; and medical physical

The City takes applications for firefighter during the month of July with a final deadline of around August 1. Written and physical skills tests are administered in late August, and other phases of the selection process are completed in the fall. The City takes applications for police officer twice a year, once in February and once in July, with a similar testing timetable as that for firefighter.
