2006 STAR Award Recipient - Brent Belcher

Brent Belcher - 2006 Star Award Recipient

Special Populations Coordinator Brent Belcher is the recipient of the Linda Taylor Leigh S.T.A.R. Award for fiscal year 2006.  Brent was presented with the award at the August 15 Board of Commissioners’ meeting.  Brent has worked for the Parks & Recreation Department since 1993.  He was nominated for the excellent service provided to special needs customers while showing them respect.  He has initiated several creative programs and special events to serve seniors and physically or mentally challenged citizens.  Brent’s nominator stated that Brent has said that his position gives him a rare opportunity to have a positive influence on people’s lives on a daily basis, and that he has been blessed with many rewarding bonds built with some very special participants and families.

Nominees of STAR AwardOther recognized nominees for the year were:  Karen Foley, Citizen Information & Assistance; Beverly Pennington, Roxie Ross and Mary Wininger, Police; and a team of employees who responded to the Bowling Green Estates condemnation, Alex Colovos, Corby Lambert, Donnie Thompson, and Vallory Schocke of HCD, and Ray Cowles, Fire (retired).

Fellow employees or citizens nominate employees for having demonstrated excellent service to their customers.  Nominations were received and reviewed by an employee committee based on several “STAR” criteria, including having a helpful attitude and compassion, flexibility, creativity, showing respect to all, taking ownership of the customer’s problem, and being a dependable team player.

Nominees received a lapel pin with the STAR award design, and an “I’m a Rising Star” card to display in their work area.  Brent received an engraved trophy and his name has been added to the STAR plaque that hangs in the City Hall lobby.
