Tips for Commuting to Work or School
Select your route. You may follow the same roads on your bicycle that you drive, or you may want to choose a more bicycle-friendly route using the information on this map. Things to carry. Pack along the basic necessities, such as helmet, water, tools, change of clothes, and personal-hygiene items. You might consider carrying a cell phone and some spare cash in case of emergency. Park it.
Park it: Once at your destination, you will need to store your bike in a secure place. Look for an unused room or closet that you can ask permission to use. If you park outside, avoid an isolated location; park where the bike is visible to pedestrian traffic. Secure it with a quality lock. Take care that your locked bike is not an obstacle to passers-by. Leave at least three feet of clearance around your bike; do not block ramps or exits.
Several organizations are working cooperatively to improve the bicycling experience in Bowling Green. Bike racks will be installed at convenient locations in the city and on campus in 2005,
through the work of the Bowling Green League of Bicyclists, WKU Parking and Transportation Services, the Downtown Redevelopment Authority, the City of Bowling Green, and the Greenways Commission.
