People Shape Neighborhoods!

WHAT WE DO:
Bowling Green Coalition of Active Neighborhoods (B.G. CAN) acts as a networking organization for many neighborhood groups and individual residents who are interested in improving the quality of life in Bowling Green's neighborhoods. Its primary actions are:

  • to provide a centralized forum for sharing of methods for neighborhood improvement
  • to educate neighborhoods regarding city resources
  • to provide a collective voice for action in addressing city wide neighborhood problems
  • to act as a liaison with city government

WHO WE ARE:
B.G. CAN is a coalition made up of homeowners associations, neighborhood watch groups, and individual citizens for the purpose of helping to improve our neighborhoods. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors who are elected at large by the membership. Its first organizational meeting was held in February, 2001. Its current by-laws were adopted in May, 2003 and most recently revised in July 2008.

Current Board Members:

  • Jack Thomas, President (Bent Tree Homeowners Association)
  • Alberta Smith, Vice-President (Magnolia Area Neighborhood Watch)
  • Lisa Cook, Secretary (Northern Heights-Parker Bennett Neighborhood Association)
  • Robin Baldwin (Covington Neighborhood Watch)
  • Sandy McAllister (St. Joseph-Westside Neighborhood Watch)
  • John Stewart (Charleston Place)
  • Pat Henderson, Past President (Sandra Street Neighborhood Association)

WHEN WE MEET:
B.G. CAN has general membership meetings called Rallies three times a year, generally scheduled for a 5th weeknight of months in the Winter, Spring and Fall.  Most, but not all, of the Rallies take place at the BGMU Annex building on Center Street.  Each meeting is hosted by a different neighborhood group. The Board of Directors meets monthly at Bowling Green Police Department on the second Monday at 4:00 p.m.

The next general membership meetings are scheduled for:

Fall Rally:  Tuesday, September 30, 2008.  6:00 p.m.  light dinner with program scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at a location to be announced.

Winter Rally: Thursday, January 29, 2009, 6:00 p.m. light dinner with program scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at a location to be announced.

Spring Rally:  Thursday, April 30, 2009,  6:00 p.m. light dinner with program scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at a location to be announced.

All B.G. CAN membership and board meetings are open to the public. If you have an idea or item of concern that you would like to present to the Board or the membership, please contact the Neighborhood Action Office.
